"Manmin's Students Are Growing into Spiritual Warriors"
2011 Manmin Students' Summer Retreat Helped Them Build Stronger Trust in God, the Lord, and the Shepherd
After the first lecture and with fullness of the Holy Spirit, students sang praises shouting, "God, Lord, and Holy Spirit! Thank You! I love You!" Photo on the left: They were waiting for dragonflies to sit on them. There have been various shapes of the aurora lights.
Manmin Students' Sunday School has taught students spiritual leadership so that they can take the lead in the world with both spirituality and professional skill. Moreover, Senior Pastor Dr. Jaerock Lee has planted vision in their hearts to let their spirits and souls prosper and receive the love and blessings of God. He also has constantly supported them. Through all these, Manmin's students came to be able to keep their hearts and thoughts in the love of the Lord and ride on the flow of the spirit well, even in surroundings filled with the worldly culture's provocativeness.
We could see such students in the 2011 Manmin Students' Summer Retreat, which was held in Boramwon, Chungbuk Province from July 25 to 28.
Manmin Students' Golden Bell Quiz
After the opening service with Elder Charles Jeong on the first day, the 1st Manmin Students' Golden Bell Bible Quiz kicked off with students' cheering. Sister Grace Kim, 12th grader, and Sister Jiyeong Lee, 11th grader, led the event as MCs. One hundred fifty students, who had gone through the preliminary rounds in Manmin Central Church and its local and overseas branch churches, took part and competed.
Brother Dongmin Kim, 12th grader from Eastern Gwangju Manmin Church, won first place. He stated, "I studied Dr. Lee's sermon series 'The Keys to Studying Well' and 'The Measure of Faith' for the quiz. While studying, I was able to arm myself with spiritual knowledge."
Manmin Students' Praise Contest
On the second day, the 18th Manmin Students' Praise Contest was held with Sister Jina Bin and Brother Hyunwoo Jeong as MCs. After the opening performance, thirteen teams demonstrated their talents with friends ardently cheering. The contestants had passed through intense competition in the preliminary rounds. The audience could feel their aroma of the love toward God in their skillful praises in song.
Sister Jeongeun Kim, 12th grader, won the grand prize. She said, "I sang the praise with a humble heart giving glory to God alone, rather than thinking of the prize. The gold award went to Sister Onyu Lee; the silver award to Sister Danbi Lee; the bronze award was won by the team 'We Will Go' from Calgary Manmin Church; and Sister Saerom Kim garnered the Special Award.
Manmin Students' Athletic Meet
On July 27, the third day of the retreat, they had the Manmin Students' Athletic Meet. There were four teams with the names 'Love', 'Power', 'Aurora', and 'Branch Churches' respectively. They competed in the games such as Tug-of-war, Soccer, Obstacle Race, Group Jump Rope, and Spot-Kick Shoot Out. Even though it rained for a while, the athletes and the students competed with happiness. The team 'Aurora' won.
Lectures and Campfire Praise and Worship
On the first day, Pastor and Principal Timothy Kim gave a lecture on 'The Keys to Studying Well: Four Key Words' based on Philippians 4:13. He mentioned, "What matters most is to set a goal. You have to study in order to give glory to God."
On the second day, Pastor Soojin Lee, President of the Pastors' Association, delivered a lecture with the title 'Man of Flesh, Man of Spirit' taken from John 3:6. She stated, "I think students changed a lot through the Mini Divine Healing Meeting." And she explained how useless the flesh is in detail with examples.
On the third day, Pastor Heesun Lee, Guidance Teacher of Men's and Women's Mission delivered the message under the title of 'Trust' from John 15:1-8. She put emphasis on 'trust' saying, "You can become spiritual warriors in the Canaan Sanctuary Era only when you are united as one with God, the Lord, and the shepherd. Then, she led Campfire Praise and Worship filled with repentance and praise.
This year, as in the past, dragonflies gave students a memorable time. They also took pictures of the five-colored aurora lights that looked like animals, angels blowing trumpets, petals, and so on.
