SAN PEDRO SULA, HONDURAS(ANS)-
Nearly four years after the devastating Hurricane Mitch ripped across Honduras leaving more than 5,000 dead, over 12,000 injuries and 8,000 missing, "Hurricane Jesus" has now swept across the Central American nation bringing new life and healing to many. Honduras suffered the greatest damage from Hurricane Mitch, which after stalling off the northern coast of Honduras, traveled inland on October 30-31, 1998, leaving a trail of widespread destruction. In some places wind velocities reached more than 180 miles-per-hour, and over six feet of rain fell. But at the end of July, a new hurricane, which some have called "Hurricane Jesus", swept the nation bringing life, not death. The powerful "winds of the Holy Spirit" came in the form the "Jesucristo Sana Hoy!" (Jesus Christ Heals Today!)", a crusade led by the Rev. Dr. Lee Jae-Rock, senior pastor of the Manmin Joong-Ang Church, a 75,000-member church based in Seoul, July 26-27 at the Olympic Stadium in San Pedro Sula, the second largest city, in Honduras which was founded on June 27 1536. Dr. Lee was believed to be the first-ever Asian to conduct a crusade in Central America. "We know that the Honduran people suffered so much from Hurricane Mitch, but now through the power of God's Holy Spirit, they have also experienced 'Hurricane Jesus' in which the winds of revival, salvation and healing, have blown through the nation because of Dr. Lee's crusade," said Johnny Kim, Director of International Mission Bureau of Manmin Church. "There were many signs and wonders that showed the people the supernatural power of God through the winds of the Holy Spirit."
KOREAN-STYLE FIESTA
Some estimates said that over the two nights, a total of more than 120,000 people attended the crusade. Each service at the Olympic Stadium was a Korean-style fiesta with thousands and dancing and singing along with the Manmin Praise Mission Team, wearing national costume waving multi-colored fans and flags in time with Gospel music including "How Great Thou Art" in Spanish. Also performing were The Hallelujah Praise Mission, the Crystal Singers and the Sound of Light, who all sang their songs together in Spanish. There were solos, groups and even dancing which was a bit hit with the crowd that joined in. Thousands who danced around the soccer field waving various flags were now receiving a glimpse of heaven. Each night, there was the extraordinary sight of people jumping out of their wheelchairs and throwing away their crutches and then walking often unaided to the front to testify to their healing in front of the crowds.Among the illnesses that people testified to being healed from including cancer, blindness, deafness, muteness and even HIV/AIDS. Before each service, a medical team of doctors led by Dr. Jose Samara, a top physician in Honduras, examined each person claiming to be sick and then issued a diagnosis which was carried on a badge that the person wore. After those who were healed testified, they were re-examined by the medical team to confirm the healing medically and, when they were convinced that the miracle had occurred, they then signed off on it. The medical team will continue for a week to examine patients for a week and will take x-rays, MRI's and blood tests. "We brought in the medical team to convince the skeptics that God's power is real," said Johnny Kim. "We would like all the people in the world to believe that the Bible is true and God is alive through these kind of miraculous evidences that are being confirmed by top medical people in this country."
