A Korean proverb says, "Nice words return only when nice words are spoken." However, what if we receive nice words although we don't say nice words? Suppose a husband said to his wife, "You've gone from a swan back to an ugly duckling!" His wife, who is wise and nice, replied, "Honey, thank you for loving me even though I am an ugly duckling." Her husband felt sorry for what he'd said and decided not to hurt her feeling with words anymore. In the same way, if we say words of goodness we can also make everyone happy even when they speak ill of us.
