John the Baptist prepared the way of Jesus, but he did not seek his own honor. One by one, those who had followed him as a prophet left him for Jesus. But he rejoiced over it from the depths of his heart and said, "He must increase, but I must decrease." He rejoiced in the truth and he didn't flaunt himself in any way. God raised him up and recognized him saying, "…among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he." It is the heart of a 'great man' that can support and rejoice with someone else when that person is receiving recognition and being loved by others.
