The Bible tells us that the greatest among us shall be our servant. Although we may serve others well, if our service is performed in our own way, it cannot be true service. Serving others is for their advantage, not for our own. Thus although we seem to serve others outwardly, if we do not empathize with their feelings or understand their situations, then we cannot say we are truly serving them. Serving with understanding and serving as if in their position are totally different from just serving with no concern for them. The resulting fruit of this service cannot help but also be different.
