Deacon Pilgyung Chung (3-31 Parish)


I was born into a Buddhist family of many generations. I attended the Buddhist temple diligently and offered the Buddhist prayer. I had exorcists perform exorcism and listened to fortune telling. I even persecuted Deaconess Songyee Chung, my daughter who attends church against her parents' will. But my wife and I ended up setting our feet firmly in Manmin Central Church for the first time on October 7, 2007.


I made up my mind to repay the Lord's grace

After I started to attend Manmin Central Church, I came to have peace and happiness. But I felt so sorry before God thinking of idol-worshipping, persecuting my daughter for her going to church, enjoying alcohol, and leading a prodigal life. So I started to think of the way to wash away my past sins and humiliation and repay God's grace.

Following the decision I naturally made up mind not just to repent with lips alone, but also to bear proper fruit of repentance and pay back the grace of the Lord. Then, I came up with delivering Manmin News. At first, I distributed 1,200 copies of it in my neighborhood. I was filled with happiness evangelizing people.

While spreading the gospel, I became healthy and the number of copies increased. Nowadays, I distribute more than 6,000 copies every week. As the fruit I received the Manmin News Award for the best distributor twice in a row in 2010 and 2011.


I am blessed to lead a healthy life in spirit and body by the power of God

For the last 30 years, I suffered from diabetes and after-effects of surgery on herniated lumbar disc. What's worse, I hurt my left wrist working in a construction site a few years ago. Afterwards, strength didn't come back to my wrist. While spreading Manmin News, however, diabetes and the after-effects were gone and I came to have strength in my wrist. I came to use it freely.

On February 16, I went to hospital due to severe pain on my left side and lower abdomen. My CT scan showed I had urinary stones. On February 17, Pastor Sungheon Ahan, my parish pastor visited me and prayed for me with the handkerchief on which Dr. Jaerock Lee had prayed (Acts 19:11-12). Actually somewhat to my surprise, my pain was relieved after the prayer. In the afternoon of that same day, Pastor Ahan prayed for me again with the handkerchief and the pain totally disappeared.

My wife also couldn't get on an elevator by herself because of serious nervousness. While leading a Christian life, she became able to ride it on her own and her eyesight has also improved.

All these blessings in spirit and body are the fruit of the love of God who was delighted in my repentance of my past life and my small deeds of delivering Manmin News. I want to continue to spread the newspaper and take a lead in leading many souls who the Lord bought with His blood to the way of salvation. By doing so, I'll try to repay His grace. I give all thanks and glory to God the Trinity.
